Joe Trasolini, Port Moody’s former four-term mayor who won the Port-Moody Coquitlam contest in a landslide, said the swearing-in ceremony at the BC legislature at 10:30 am on May 9, 2012 was “more emotional than I thought.”
“It is an overwhelming feeling to be able to be here, representing the people back in the constituency of Port Moody-Coquitlam,” said Trasolini. “I’m the same person, and I will continue to be accessible and speaking about their issues.” To read the full article in the Vancouver Province (09-05-12) Click Here

PORT MOODY, BC, April 8, 2012
This April 8th, the Port Moody Station Museum is putting on its 12th annual Easter Extravaganza in style. A favourite of local families, the event features a unique Easter egg hunt set amongst the background of a heritage train station and rail car. In addition to the hunt, there are a number of family friendly activities including an Easter basket craft, Easter themed carnival games and face painting. According to Museum Coordinator, Rebecca Clarke, “This year we are really trying to reach out to families with younger children. We will have a special egg hunt area dedicated for toddlers, stroller parking and a changing station. We’ve tried hard to listen to the feedback we’ve received from visitors in prior years and want to make this year’s event the best one yet.”
While on the hunt for eggs, visitors can enjoy magician Dennis Hewson and dog dancing team Joyce Johnstone and Twinkletoes. Hewson, a Coquitlam resident, has been performing magic for many years and can delight audiences with a skilled sleight of hand. Johnstone and Twinkletoes have performed at numerous shows to songs like “Me and My Shadow” and “Dancing
in the Rain”. Both can thrill audiences with their undeniable stage
presence.
Easter visitors can also take advantage of a visit from the Easter Bunny who will be riding a vintage one-man rail car called a velocipede. Photos with the Easter bunny and velocipede are $10. This Easter Bunny is one of a kind. Don’t miss out.
The event is the Museum’s annual fundraiser with proceeds going to support its work in preserving and showcasing local heritage. Admission to the event is $5 per person. Children receive a bag of chocolate and carnival game prizes.

We are on the road to a provincial election victory – by capturing the riding of Port Moody-Coquitlam, and breaking through in Chilliwack-Hope. And we will send a clear message to all British Columbians - that the BC NDP is ready to form the next provincial government.
Winning these critical by-elections will give us the momentum to win the general election in 2013. But the desperate BC Liberals will do anything they can to hang on to power. They’ve spent millions on negative advertising with no solutions for BC’s problems. This attack has carried on in a negative radio ad campaign by their friends in the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA).
That’s one good reason why Port Moody’s Joe Trasolini is running for the BC NDP – to help build our province and to provide a positive alternative for voters. But even the best candidates can’t win without money – and enough to counter the BC Liberal’s nasty attack ads.
The way to respond is simple. Your gift today will help us win these crucial by-elections and prepare us for victory in the general election next year. I write today to ask that you please renew your support for the BC NDP with a special gift, right now... Imagine how excited you will be when we win – and you know that your donation made a huge difference!
Early gifts are incredibly important. If we wait until the last moment to ask our supporters to donate, we won’t have the funding needed to defeat the BC Liberals. With your donation right now, you’ll help us take advantage of incredible opportunities.
In Port Moody-Coquitlam, former four-term Port Moody Mayor Joe Trasolini is already campaigning hard to win a riding he knows so well for the BC NDP. And in Chilliwack-Hope, we have a good chance to win by building on the impressive 33% vote the BC NDP took in the 2009 election. The Globe and Mail says that “for once, the NDP have a shot in Chilliwack.” Our excellent candidate Gwen O’Mahony could make history.
Two great candidates. Two historic opportunities. Your donation today will help us win both. When we win these by-elections with positive campaigns it will signal that the BC NDP wants to debate the issues that matter to working families and the middle-class, rather than focus on personality politics.
As we move forward, we will say what we are going to do and how we are going to pay for it. We are going to do bold things, but we are going to have a modest agenda that we can deliver for the people of BC.
We’ve put forward our plan. Our plan will reduce the crushing debt faced by university and college students by reinstating a needs-based grant program to be paid for by resotring the corporate capital tax on banks.
We have great ideas like leveraging the purchasing power of government to invigorate local economies and stimulate jobs. Doing simple things like having local hospitals purchase local produce. We will continue to offer positive solutions to important issues like growing income inequality, the environment, education and healthcare.
We have a great opportunity in Port Moody-Coquitlam and Chilliwack-Hope. So please make a tax deductible donation online of $20 or $40 right now, so that we can win these crucial by-elections. Thank you so much for helping create a better province where there is economic and social justice. And thank you in advance for your online donation. Don't forget your donation is tax deductible up to 75% - $100 right now will cost you as little as $25 after your generous tax credit.
Yours sincerely,
Adrian Dix
British Columbia NDP Leader
PS I can't emphasize enough how important your gift right now is to help us win these by-elections, and the next general election. You'll give us momentum that we need to form a progressive government in BC.

Today, I announced that by-elections in the ridings of Port Moody-Coquitlam and Chilliwack-Hope will be held on Thursday, April 19th.
We are putting forward two outstanding candidates:
Port Moody-Coquitlam
Dennis Marsden is a long-time Coquitlam resident, a community leader and tireless volunteer. He is Treasurer of the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, a past-president of the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce and volunteer hockey and soccer coach. Dennis has helped countless families and small businesses in the Tri-Cities area plan for their financial future as the manager at a local credit union.
Chilliwack-Hope
Laurie Throness has a long history of involvement in helping those who have represented Chilliwack in government; as a Chief of Staff to former federal minister Hon. Chuck Strahl and as an assistant to former Social Credit MLA Harvey Schroeder. In 2002, Laurie pursued a PhD in History at Cambridge University in the UK, and wrote a book (published in October 2008) about the history of our prison system.
Dennis and Laurie are backed by strong campaign teams with great leadership. Dennis’s campaign is co-chaired by Coquitlam-Burke Mountain MLA Doug Horne and Port Moody Councillor and past federal Conservative candidate Diana Dilworth. In Chilliwack, Laurie’s campaign chair is former Conservative cabinet minister and MP, Chuck Strahl.
By-elections are always difficult for a sitting government, but they also present opportunity. Over the coming four weeks we will show voters a clear choice between our government and the NDP. That choice will be between our government’s plan to create jobs, responsibly manage your tax dollars and keeping your taxes low versus the NDP’s hidden agenda of high personal income tax policies and uncontrolled government spending.
Throughout the campaign we’ll continue to press the NDP to explain how they will pay for their $6.8 billion in spending promises and whether they believe that the BC Teachers Federation should receive a $2 billion contract while almost all other public sector unions have agreed to net-zero contracts.
Dennis and Laurie will need your support over the next 28 days. If you are able to volunteer your time to help with the Port Moody-Coquitlam or Chilliwack-Hope campaign, help on election day, or at advance polls from Wednesday, April 11th to Saturday, April 14th it would be valued. If you don’t live near one of the by-election ridings, you can still help by making a tax-refundable donation.
With your help we can elect two great BC Liberal candidates who will continue the stellar representation that both ridings have had over the years from Iain Black and Barry Penner.
My sincere thank you and best regards,
Christy Clark (22-03-12)
