'The Anmore Ladies' Book Club - Gentlemen Included' welcomed local author, lawyer Larry Barron, to a 'Meet the Author' gathering on Monday, February 20, 2012. Mr. Barron's recent novel 'The Metamorphasis of Hitler - 1919' generated a lively, values-laden, discussion on a number of issues related to the content of this substantial historical novel. Mr. Barron is currently researching a sequel to this provocative narrative. You can buy the novel on Amazon.com. The group that gathered expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Barron, esquire. As one of the group said, "Thanks so much for talking to us. As always, history continues to repete itself. What a great read!" (20-02-12) Click Here
A number of Anmore residents helped NDP Candidate Joe Trasolini welcome Olivia Chow to the Port Moody Office on Saturday, February 18th. Ms Chow's husband, Jack Layton, was the national leader of the NDP Party before his untimely death last year, and Ms Chow is a very respected NDP leader.
" Olivia Chow, NDP MP for Trinity-Spadina and Federal
Transportation Critic, arrived at Joe Trasolini's campaign
office on Saturday afternoon to show support for his
candidacy. People were crowded into every nook and cranny to
see and hear this gracious, warm woman speak from the heart.
There were three clear messages. First, demonstrating her
acute knowledge of the situation here in Port
Moody-Coquitlam (the name of the riding that includes
Anmore), she almost dared our Premier to call the
by-election knowing that the current government has fallen
from favour in the public eye. Second, she commended Joe on his record as a municipal politician, acknowledging that her own roots are from civic politics, and that this is the place where politicians have their feet on the ground, meeting with and staying connected to the people. She smiled as she said it is difficult to stop saying Mayor Trasolini or "Your Worship".Her final message was to talk about the private member's bill which is entering second reading in the House of Commons. This bill is calling for a national transit strategy. Olivia made it clear she's dedicated to helping all cities maintain and fix transit systems. Canada is the only G8 country without a national public transit strategy. Olivia stayed for a couple of hours to talk with everyone present as well as to do some telephone canvassing along with the other MP's and MLA's who arrived for the day including Brian Topp and Peggy Nash, two of the NDP leadership candidates."
